Strategic Monitoring Meeting

This evening Governors were given a presentation by Mr Shankland about his role as Numeracy Coordinator for the school. Mr Shankland told us how he visited classes with other teachers to ensures that the children were learning effectively and achieving the best that they can. Mr Shankland also informed Governors how numeracy will be taught to children with the introduction of assessment without levels which has been introduced by the Government this year. Governors asked various questions about how we can achieve the best from every child at Moston Fields. The Governors were really pleased with the results achieved last year and are enthusiastic about the new curriculum and the way the children will be taught.
Following this Mr Shankland, in his role as Assistant Head and supported by the Deputy Head, Mrs White gave a presentation on how assessment without levels will change the teaching in school. Changes have been made which allow the Teachers in all years to mark the children books at the end of each day and determine the progress that has been made by each child. If any children struggled with a particular area extra help can be prepared for the following day to help them understand. Mr Shankland and Mrs White also explained how books would be monitored to ensure expected progress is being made through the year. Governors asked questions about how we can support this monitoring and a plan has been agreed.
